Together, we can build a more inclusive and connected fitness community!

  • Social Creatures is a social innovation nonprofit that is redefining how we think about health. We are dedicated to advancing social health—the quality of our relationships and connections—by creating inclusive, science-based programs that reduce isolation and foster social connections. Ultimately, we strive to ensure that social health is recognized as equally important as physical and mental health, solidifying its role as a vital pillar of overall well-being.

Scientific research consistently shows that physical and mental health are closely tied to social health. But for people with physical disabilities, social health is often strained due to societal barriers like inaccessible environments and limited opportunities for inclusive activities, such as fitness programs. In response, SitGrit Fitness was co-created with the Spinal Cord Injury Transitions Group at Mount Sinai.

Powered by Social Creatures and Performance 360, SitGrit brings community-based fitness to all by offering free, fully seated, virtual group workouts. These sessions, which focus on aerobics and strength training for the upper body, are led by high-performance and Olympic fitness trainers. The program is open to individuals of all ages, fitness levels, and mobility ranges, embodying Social Creatures’ mission to build more connected and inclusive communities.

The impact of SitGrit is profound. Seventy-five percent of participants report feeling more connected to others through the classes, fostering a stronger sense of community and belonging. Additionally, 93% of participants report physical health improvements, while 63% note mental and emotional health improvements. Through SitGrit, Social Creatures demonstrates how creating conditions where social health can thrive can lead to better overall well-being.

  • Help us raise vital funds to sustain SitGrit’s 2026 operations and fund key improvements, including:

    • A third free weekly class—an evening SitGrit session—to better serve working participants and expand overall access.
